NDEO's Thank A Dance Teacher Day 2017
5/04/2017 11:12 AM

NDEO is thrilled to announce the fourth annual #ThankADanceTeacherDay, coming May 4, 2017.

If you’ve followed NDEO’s Thank A Dance Teacher Day (TADTD) since its inception in 2013, you will notice several changes to this year’s campaign. First, the date has changed. TADTD has traditionally been held in November. In recent years, however, we felt that the message of Thank A Dance Teacher Day was getting lost in other social media movements centered on or around the Thanksgiving holiday. The date has been moved to the first week of May, to help usher in Teacher Appreciation Week and to celebrate a year of dedicated work by dance educators in studios, schools, and universities.

Another important change is that the focus of the event will be exclusively on social media awareness. In the past, TADTD has been a joint awareness and fundraising campaign, with funds raised supporting NDEO’s Professional Development Scholarships. After careful consideration, NDEO has decided to focus our Thank A Dance Teacher Day efforts on spreading good will throughout the dance community, raising awareness of the benefits of dance education, and advocating for dance internationally.

dancer with blue scarfOn May 4th, we’re asking you to thank your dance teacher on the social media platform of your choosing, share the story of how he or she has impacted in your life, and use the hashtag #ThankADanceTeacherDay with your post. (Of course, you can always choose to donate in his or her honor to NDEO or another dance organization that is close to your heart!)

As always, we are grateful for your support of NDEO and the Thank A Dance Teacher Campaign. It is only through our joint efforts that we are able to successfully advocate for dance education. By recognizing your dance teachers and sharing their impact on social media, you will help validate the critical importance of dance education and the work of dance teachers.
